The cross-country visit for a delegation from Sri Lanka was organized in March 2012 by The MFF Regional Secretariat with the support from MFF Thailand and IUCN Thailand staff, Ms Petchrung Sukpong, facilitated a week-long study tour on coastal management in the South of Thailand. Mr Rohan Ganegodaappuhamilage, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, and Dr Anil Premaratne, Director General of Coast Conservation Department (CCD), who participated in this study tour, expressed great satisfaction with the trip as they learned about how the community cope and adapt to the disaster since the Tsunami in 2004.
Two months after MFF Thailand organized the trip for Sri Lanka, another MFF member country ‘Vietnam’ shown an interested to learn the best practice in coastal management and conservation in Thailand. Delegates from Kien Giang Province, Vietnam visited two provinces in the South of Thailand from the 3rd - 6th June 2012. Mangroves for the Future team facilitated the experience sharing between Thai and Vietnam group.
On the 4 June 2012 the group visited MFF project in Phang Nga province (food from Mangrove, learning about education and advocating about mangrove conservation though food, woman empowerment and culture). On the 5 June 2012 they went to Ngao Mangrove Research Center and Ranong Biosphere Reserve to explore about research on carbon sequestration of mangrove and mangrove conservation - Mangrove Development Station No. 10 in Ranong to learn about people’s participation in mangrove rehabilitation and the Thai-Japan friendship on mangrove restoration.
