This year's theme was "Green Economy. Does it include you?" The day was marked with activities like tree planting, poster competition and photographic exhibition portraying environmental issues in Pakistan. The exhibits were appreciated by a large number of art lovers and students, with winners awarded shields of appreciation. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh urged upon the need for change in peoples behavior and attitude towards environmentally responsible acts.
In the technical session that followed, Mr. Akhtar Hussein Samoo from Sindh Coastal Committee Development Project spoke on coastal rehabilitation initiatives in Pakistan and their linkages to livelihoods and climate change. Mr. Rafiul Haq, National Coordinator MFF- Pakistan highlighted role of mangrove ecosystems in relation to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Mr. Javed Jabbar Vice President of IUCN Global introduced the IUCN and its mandate towards addressing global conservation issues.
