Objectives

Two VietGAP sustainable shrimp-crab culture models are implemented (at least 50% software criteria and 100% hardware VietGAP criteria are met), which brings about 10% profit increase for the farmer

Background

- Kim Sơn District, part of the buffer zone of Red-River Delta Biosphere Reserve

- Mangroves area: 500ha

- 33 households in Kim Trung Commune defined as

aquaculture area by the PPC

- Decrease in fisheries resources and unsustainable aquaculture (diseases)

- Average profits from aquaculture: 2 households earn USD100/household/crop, remaining households were at a loss

Target beneficiaries

- 33 shrimp farming households

- 25 local women

Outputs

-          Result 1: Co-management teams in VietGAP sustainable shrimp-crab culture in Hamlet 4 and Hamlet 5 in Kim Trung Commune are established

-          Result 2: VietGAP sustainable shrimp-crab culture procedures (at least 50% hard and 100% soft standards of VietGAP are met) for each household on co-management basis is developed and applied, increasing 10% profits compared to 2012.

-          Result 3: Model of women group processing low valued products from the shrimp ponds, increasing household income by at least 10%

-          Result 4: A Project closure, model continuation and replication recommendations
