Fifth Postgraduate Certificate Course on Integrated Coastal Management

The course aims to build a strong cadre of coastal managers and policy makers with the knowledge, tools and skills to design and implement sustainable ICM programmes for countries in the Asia region. It is intended for practitioners and managers in sectors relevant to coastal zone management who need to learn both the principles and practical tools for effective coastal zone management.

The curriculum will provide trainees with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge on ICM as the central approach for managing coastal and marine ecosystems in the Asia region. Tools and skills for ICM will be taught, with emphasis on designing, implementing and monitoring projects that integrate across sectors, involve diverse stakeholders and give attention to the effects of climate change.

The course consists of three (3) modules and will be conducted over a period of seven (7) weeks at the AIT Campus in Pathumthani, on the outskirts of Bangkok. In addition to classes by experienced AIT faculty, the modules will include seminars and other special sessions conducted by experts from MFF and other regional programmes and organizations based in Thailand.

National Coordinating Bodies in the MFF member countries will nominate the ICM course candidates from their respective countries. Nominees will represent both the government sector and civil society, and where relevant, include nominees from academic institutions interested in teaching the ICM course in their home countries.
