In all regions of the world, women and men have unique relationships with, and dependency upon, and expertise regarding their environment. Poor understanding of their roles and contributions that both genders bring often leads to a lack of recognition of their needs and interests in policy and programmes. Recognising that gender equality is fundamental to conservation and sustainable development, MFF has established gender integration as an important strategic approach, and cross cutting issue for programme implementation.

The Gender and Coastal Resource Management Knowledge Network was formed to further utilize and make available the expertise and knowledge MFF has gathered over the years.
