Objectives

  • Establishing oysters farming model using hanging medium

  • Providing technical guidance about sustainable clam culture

Background

  • Mangroves are of coverage has been decreasing because of inappropriate aquaculture and agricultural practices by the local community

  • Conservation efforts by the management of the mangroves have been rendered ineffective because of the large scale (15 km) and limited human resources

  • The project will assist the sustainable development, particularly of aquaculture practices, of the the local community

  • Households practicing clams aquaculture

  • 3 households practicing oysters farming model using hanging medium

  • Mangroves management

Outputs

  • Site surveys for the pilot model conducted in May 2014
  • Training on clams farming techniques held in May 2014
  • 6 Hanging mediums installed and seeds released from 10-30 in May 2014
  • Harvest of oysters: 6,2tons sold at VND4,000/kg in March 2015
  • Two local groups have replicated the project models with 25 hanging medium (500m2)
