Applying Knowledge
The knowledge required to influence long-term coastal development and conservation processes comes from many different sources, and in a variety of forms, it consists of traditional practices and know-how as well as “modern” science and management approaches. We have therefore adopted Knowledge as one of the three main pillars under which, five programmes of work have been developed:
- Improve the social science and natural science knowledge base for effective and informed coastal planning, policy and management.
- Support science-based and ecologically sound coastal ecosystem rehabilitation.
- Support the ‘reef-to-ridge’ approach to management.
- Increase knowledge and awareness of the economic value of coastal ecosystems.
- Applying a Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation (MLE) approach to accelerate knowledge sharing.
